Critters are usually-unfriendly creatures found in both Super Phantom Cat and Super Phantom Cat 2. This article lists what differences there are between the varieties of critters.

Common Traits[edit | edit source]

Most critters have one or more of the following four traits:

  1. Almost all critters pace back and forth within a set area, which varies for each individual critter (though these areas may overlap under certain circumstances). (Spike Balls, Spike Burrowers, and Spiders are the only critters that don't have this trait.)
  2. Most critters damage the player if the player touches the critter's side or bottom.
  3. Most critters will be destroyed if the player jumps on the critter's head, also bouncing the player into the air as the critter disappears.
  4. Some critters will react to the player coming near the critter, usually by attempting to damage the player.

List Of Critters[edit | edit source]

Note: All of these names (with the exception of the first three) were made up based on the abilities and appearances of the critters, as no real names were stated in the game.

Yellow Critters[edit | edit source]

A yellow critter

Yellow Critters appear in both games. They pace back and forth, and can be defeated by jumping on their head, getting hit with a bullet sprite (only in SPC), getting hit with a a smash sprite, or by being stepped on in their shrunken form. They do not recognize ledges, die when they touch spikes, and cannot see the player. If the player touches them from the sides, they lose 1 heart. They are one of the 3 critters that are able to be shrunken.

Red Critters[edit | edit source]

A red critter

Red Critters appear in both games. They are exactly like Yellow Critters, besides the fact that they can see the player, and will run and kill them if they do. They are one of the 3 critters that are able to be shrunken.

Nervys[edit | edit source]

A Nervy

A scared Nervy

Nervys are shy pink critters that will automatically hide from the player until they go away. Nervys can see behind themselves as well as in front of themselves, allowing them to hide no matter where the player is if they even could potentially see the player (though they'll pop back up if the block beneath them is broken). While players can walk through Nervys when they're hiding, Nervys' heads can be used as springs, but only when they're not hiding, forcing the player to drop down from above or immobilize a Nervy (via the Plant power; Nervys hide when players get close enough to fire the Ice power) before bouncing on it. Unlike other critters, Nervys are harmless and passive.

An Ice Nervy

Inside Glacial Valley (world 4), there are Ice Nervys. You cannot jump on them, as they have ice spikes instead of their bouncy leaves.

In Mission 008: Darwin’s journal, Darwin Roy shows the player a Nervy and challenges the player to not disturb one Nervy. Afterwards, the player are given coins. Several missions beyond that one require walking through fields of Nervys without disturbing more than three of them.

Giant Red Critters[edit | edit source]

If the player touches them from the sides, they lose 1 heart. They are also found in Dark Spire (world 5). The player can use the Resize power to turn it into a Red Critter. They are one of the 3 critters that are able to be shrunken.
